An Intervalometer works just like a Remote Shutter Release Cable, but it also includes a timer, so you can set up a long exposure, or even a sequence of exposures to be taken with one press of a button.

Most DSLR cameras are limited to a 30 second exposure. Longer exposure require the use of the ‘Bulb’ setting to manually press and release the shutter. An Intervalometer takes over this function allowing far longer exposures to be taken.
